Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated it 8:441 and 13:389, from Humaydi, from Sufyan, who is Ibn Uyayna, with this isnad. Muslim narrated it 2:196, from Ishaq bin Ibrahim and Ibn Abu Umar, both of them from Sufyan. Abu Dawud narrated it 4:5274–523 (Awn al-Mabud numbering), from Muhammad bin Sabbah and Ibn Sarh, both of them from Sufyan. It is the last hadith in Sunan Abi Dawud."Ibn Adam hurts Me." Hafiz mentioned in Fath al-Bari, quoting Qurtubi, who said, "Its meaning is that he addresses Me with speech that would hurt one for whom being hurt is conceivable, but Allah is above having any hurt reach Him. This is simply a broadening of the language. What is meant is that whoever does this exposes himself to Allah's displeasure.""He curses time." Khattabi said in Maalim Sunan [5113 in Tahzib Sunan], the interpretation of this statement is that the Arabs used to curse time because it was what afflicted them with misfortunes and hardships. They would attribute to it the action of whatever befell them from it, then curse its doer, so that the reference of the cursing would ultimately return to Allah, , since He is the one who brings it about.Muslims disciplined themselves in this matter following the discipline of Allah and His Messenger, until a new generation grew up among them who marked out the path and made it plain, yet it overcame their minds and manners, because they were commanded to exalt it and submit to it in every matter of theirs. So they came to imitate those mute, godless animals, evil speech spread on their tongues, and their lips overpowered them, even among the great scholars or those who merely pretend to be so, so that they no longer restrain themselves from uttering words of disbelief, cursing time, cursing fate, and describing fate with whatever their minds and hearts spew out. They neither understand nor comprehend, and when they are admonished or alerted, they grow arrogant and are seized by the pride that leads to sin.
