"Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have made off with all the rewards. They pray as we pray and fast as we fast, but they have surplus wealth which they give in charity, while we have nothing to give."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Shall I guide you to words by which, if you act upon them, you will catch up with those who have surpassed you, and none will overtake you except one who does the same as you?"The man said, "Of course, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Say after every prayer, Allahu Akbar thirty-three times, Subhan Allah thirty-three times, and Alhamdu lillah thirty-three times, and seal them with, There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over everything."
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud related it in 1504, 1:557 of Awn al-Mabud, from Abdul-Rahman bin Ibrahim, from Walid bin Muslim, with this same isnad, adding at the end, "His sins will be forgiven, even if they were like the foam of the sea."Bukhari related something similar in meaning, 2:269–275, and Muslim in 1:166, through the narration of Sumayy from Abu Salih from Abu Hurairah. In it, the poor among the migrants said this, without naming Abu Dharr. Muslim also related something similar in meaning through the narration of Suhayl bin Abu Salih from his father.Bukhari related it in 11:113–115 through the narration of Warqaa from Sumayy from Abu Salih, and in it there is glorifying, praising, and takbir, ten times each. Bukhari then pointed to some of his chains, and the Hafiz explained them there.Something of its meaning will come later at 8830 and 10272, through the narration of Suhayl bin Abu Salih from Abu Ubayd from Ata bin Yazid from Abu Hurairah. This narration is also found in Muslim, 1:166–167.Munziri said, at 1449, after mentioning Abu Dawud's narration, "Muslim related part of it, from the hadith of Abu Aswad Deeli from Abu Dharr, with some addition and omission." The narration he points to is in Sahih Muslim, 1:276.See also Targhib wal-Tarhib, 2:259–260. See also what came before in the Musnad of Ali, 838, and in the Musnad of Abdullah bin Amr, 6498 and 6910.Duthur, with the dal and the tha both marked with damma, is the plural of duthr, with fatha on the dal and sukun on the tha. Ibn Athir said, it means abundant wealth, and it applies to one, two, or many.As for "He has no partner," followed by "His is the dominion," the word "His" was mentioned only once in the H and M manuscripts, having been omitted by mistake by the copyists. It is present in K, and the wording does not make sense without it.
