Its isnad is sahih. Naeem bin Abdullah Mujmir, of Madinah, the freedman of the family of Umar bin Khattab, was a trustworthy successor. He was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Main, Abu Hatim, Ibn Saad, and others. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 2/96, as did Ibn Saad in al-Tabaqat 5:227.Naeem is in the diminutive form. Mujmir is with the first mim vocalized with damma and the second with kasra, with a silent jeem between them, though it has also been said to be with the jeem vocalized with fatha and the mim doubled. This title was given to his father, Abdullah, because he used to perfume the masjid of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with incense, and it was then applied to Naeem following his father.The hadith appears in Muwatta, page 892, and was narrated by Bukhari, 4:82, and Muslim, 1:389, both through the route of Malik.Anqab is the plural of naqb, with the qaf vocalized with sukun, meaning a passage between two mountains. Qadi Iyad, in al-Mashariq 2:23, quoted Ibn Wahb as saying that it means the entrances to Madinah, that is, its gates and the mouths of its roads through which one enters it.
