The Prophet ﷺ forbade making vows and said, "It does not bring forward anything, but it only extracts something from the miser."Ibn Jafar said, "Through it something is extracted from the miser."
[Its chain is sahih] The addition "from his father" was omitted in J, which is a clear scribal error, and it is confirmed in K, in Sahih Muslim, and elsewhere. It is essential to the chain. His statement at the end, "Ibn Jafar said," indicates, by including it even if not explicitly, that Imam Ahmad also related it from Muhammad bin Jafar from Shubah with this same chain.Muslim related it (2:12) from Muhammad bin Muthanna and Ibn Bashar, both of them from Muhammad bin Jafar from Shubah, with the same wording. The group related it with the same meaning, except for Abu Dawud, as noted in al-Muntaqa (4895). See also what has already appeared in the Musnad of Ibn Umar (5275, 5592, 5994).
