The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me, and I do not say he forbade you all, from wearing gold rings, from wearing qassi garments and clothes dyed with safflower, and from reciting the Quran while bowing in prayer. He once gave me a robe of striped silk as a gift, so I went out wearing it. He said, "Ali, I did not give it to you so that you would wear it."So I returned with it to Fatimah and handed her one end of it. She took hold of it to help me fold it, but instead I tore it in two.She said, "May your hands be covered in dust, son of Abu Talib! What have you done?"I replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade me from wearing it, so wear it yourself and clothe your women with it."
Its isnad is sahih. Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Hunain is a trustworthy successor (tabii).Riqqah, with the ra pronounced with a kasrah and the qaf unshortened, means silver and coins struck from it. The origin of the word is warq, with the ra pronounced with a kasrah, which refers specifically to struck coins. The waw was dropped and the ha was substituted in its place, as Ibn Athir said.See 601, 611, 619, 698.
