Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

The Jews came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "As-samu alayka" (death be upon you), while saying within themselves, "Why does Allah not punish us for what we say?" [Mujadilah 58:8]. So Allah revealed, "When they come to you, they greet you with a greeting Allah has not used to greet you," and he recited up to His words, "and what an evil destination it is." [Mujadilah 58:8]

أن اليهود أتت النبي ﷺ فقالت السام عليك وقالوا في أنفسهم {لولا يعذبنا الله بما نقول} فأنزل الله عز وجل {وإذا جاءوك حيوك بما لم يحيك به الله} فقرأ إلى قوله {فبئس المصير}
