He asked the Prophet ﷺ, "In how many days should I complete reading the Quran?" Then he mentioned the hadith.Yahya said that he replied, "In seven. Whoever reads it in less than three does not comprehend it."He asked, "How should I fast?"He said, "Fast three days from every month. For each ten days, fast one day, and you will be credited with the reward of nine days."He said, "I am capable of more than that."He said, "Fast two days out of every ten, and you will be credited with the reward of eight days," and so on until he reached five days.

أنه سأل النبي ﷺ في كم أقرأ القرآن فذكر الحديث قال يحيى قال في سبع لا يفقه من قرأه في أقل من ثلاث وقال كيف أصوم قال صم من كل شهر ثلاثة أيام من كل عشرة أيام يوما ويكتب لك أجر تسعة أيام قال إني أقوى من ذلك قال صم من كل عشرة يومين ويكتب لك أجر ثمانية أيام حتى بلغ خمسة أيام
Its isnad is sahih. Yazid, the brother of Mutarrif, is Yazid bin Abdullah bin Shikhir, whose reliability was established earlier at 6535. The hadith appears at length at 6535, where we noted it, and that Abu Dawud narrated it at length at 1390 through Hammam from Qatada. This is one of the narrations of the long hadith that came earlier at 6477. See also 6545, 6546, 6764, 7877.As for his statement, "and eight days' reward will be recorded for you," this is the correct reading, established in ل and م. In ح it reads "for him" instead of "for you," which is an error.
