It reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that I had said, "I will surely fast every day and stand in prayer every night for as long as I live."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Are you the one who says, or who said, 'I will surely fast every day and stand in prayer every night for as long as I live'?"I replied, "Yes, I said that."He said, "You will not be able to do that. So sleep and stand in prayer, fast and break your fast. Fast three days of every month, for each good deed is rewarded tenfold."Then he mentioned its meaning.
حدثنا روح حدثنا محمد بن أبي حفصة أخبرنا ابن شهاب عن سعيد بن المسيب وأبي سلمة بن عبد الرحمن
بلغ رسول الله ﷺ أني أقول لأصومن الدهر ولأقومن الليل ما بقيت فقال رسول الله ﷺ أنت الذي تقول أو قلت لأصومن الدهر ولأقومن الليل ما بقيت قال قلت نعم قال فإنك لا تطيق ذلك قال فقم ونم وصم وأفطر وصم ثلاثة أيام من كل شهر فإن الحسنة عشر أمثالها فذكر معناه
