The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the firstborn offering, and he said, "The firstborn offering is a valid practice. But if you leave it until it grows into a sturdy young camel of one or two years, then carry provisions on it in the cause of Allah or give it to a widow, that is better than slaughtering it as a newborn so that its flesh clings to its fur, you overturn your milk vessel, and you leave your she-camel grieving."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا داود بن قيس سمعت عمرو بن شعيب يحدث عن أبيه
سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن الفرع فقال الفرع حق وإن تركته حتى يكون شغزبا ابن مخاض أو ابن لبون فتحمل عليه في سبيل الله أو تعطيه أرملة خير من أن تبكه يلصق لحمه بوبره وتكفأ إناءك وتولي ناقتك
