I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn when the delegations of Hawazin came to him and said, "Muhammad, we are of one stock and kin, so show us favor, may Allah show favor to you, for what has befallen us of calamity is not hidden from you."He said, "Choose between your women, your wealth, and your children."They said, "You have given us the choice between our honor and our wealth. We choose our children."He said, "As for what belongs to me and to the sons of Abdul-Muttalib, it is yours. When I have prayed the noon prayer, then say, 'We seek the intercession of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the believers, and the intercession of the believers with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, regarding our women and our children.'"So they did this, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for what belongs to me and to the sons of Abdul-Muttalib, it is yours."The Muhajirun said, "And whatever belongs to us belongs to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Ansar said the same.But Uyayna bin Badr said, "As for what belongs to me and to the sons of Fazara, no."Aqra bin Habis said, "As for me and the sons of Tamim, no."Abbas bin Mirdas said, "As for me and the sons of Sulaym, no."The two tribes then said, "You have lied. Rather, it belongs to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People, return to them their women and their children. Whoever holds onto anything of the spoils, he shall have from us six shares from the first spoils Allah grants us."Then he mounted his riding camel, and the people clung to him saying, "Distribute our spoils among us," until they pressed him against an acacia tree, which snatched away his cloak.He said, "People, return my cloak to me. By Allah, if you had as many camels as the trees of Tihama, I would have divided them among you. You will not find me stingy, nor cowardly, nor a liar."Then he drew near to his camel and took a tuft of hair from its hump, placing it between his index and middle fingers. Then he raised it and said, "People, I have no share of this spoils, not even this, except for the fifth, and the fifth is returned to you. So return even the needle and the thread, for embezzlement will be a disgrace, a fire, and a shame upon its perpetrator on the Day of Resurrection."A man stood up holding a ball of hair and said, "I took this to repair the saddle-pad of a camel of mine that has a sore back."He said, "As for what belongs to me and to the sons of Abdul-Muttalib, it is yours."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, if it has reached this point, I have no need of it." And he threw it away.
حدثنا عبد الصمد حدثنا حماد يعني ابن سلمة حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق
شهدت رسول الله ﷺ يوم حنين وجاءته وفود هوازن فقالوا يا محمد إنا أصل وعشيرة فمن علينا من الله عليك فإنه قد نزل بنا من البلاء ما لا يخفى عليك فقال اختاروا بين نسائكم وأموالكم وأبنائكم قالوا خيرتنا بين أحسابنا وأموالنا نختار أبناءنا فقال أما ما كان لي ولبني عبد المطلب فهو لكم فإذا صليت الظهر فقولوا إنا نستشفع برسول الله ﷺ على المؤمنين وبالمؤمنين على رسول الله ﷺ في نسائنا وأبنائنا قال ففعلوا فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما ما كان لي ولبني عبد المطلب فهو لكم وقال المهاجرون وما كان لنا فهو لرسول الله ﷺ وقالت الأنصار مثل ذلك وقال عيينة بن بدر أما ما كان لي ولبني فزارة فلا وقال الأقرع بن حابس أما أنا وبنو تميم فلا وقال عباس بن مرداس أما أنا وبنو سليم فلا فقالت الحيان كذبت بل هو لرسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ يا أيها الناس ردوا عليهم نساءهم وأبناءهم فمن تمسك بشيء من الفيء فله علينا ستة فرائض من أول شيء يفيئه الله علينا ثم ركب راحلته وتعلق به الناس يقولون اقسم علينا فيئنا بيننا حتى ألجئوه إلى سمرة فخطفت رداءه فقال يا أيها الناس ردوا علي ردائي فوالله لو كان لكم بعدد شجر تهامة نعم لقسمته بينكم ثم لا تلفوني بخيلا ولا جبانا ولا كذوبا ثم دنا من بعيره فأخذ وبرة من سنامه فجعلها بين أصابعه السبابة والوسطى ثم رفعها فقال يا أيها الناس ليس لي من هذا الفيء ولا هذه إلا الخمس والخمس مردود عليكم فردوا الخياط والمخيط فإن الغلول يكون على أهله يوم القيامة عارا ونارا وشنارا فقام رجل معه كبة من شعر فقال إني أخذت هذه أصلح بها بردعة بعير لي دبر قال أما ما كان لي ولبني عبد المطلب فهو لك فقال الرجل يا رسول الله أما إذ بلغت ما أرى فلا أرب لي بها ونبذها
