An Arabi came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him about ablution, so he showed him how to perform it three times each. He said, "This is the proper ablution. Whoever exceeds this has done wrong, transgressed, and acted unjustly."
حدثنا يعلى حدثنا سفيان عن موسى بن أبي عائشة
جاء أعرابي إلى النبي ﷺ يسأله عن الوضوء فأراه ثلاثا ثلاثا قال هذا الوضوء فمن زاد على هذا فقد أساء وتعدى وظلم
Its isnad is sahih. Yaala is Ibn Ubayd Tanafisi. Sufyan is Thawri. The hadith was narrated by Nasai 1:33, Ibn Majah 1:84, and Bayhaqi 1:79, all of them through the route of Yaala from Sufyan, in similar wording. Ibn Jarud likewise narrated it, 45, through the route of Ashjai from Sufyan. Tahawi narrated it in Maani Athar 1:22 through the route of Abu Awana from Musa bin Abu Ayesha, also in similar wording. Abu Dawud narrated it at length, 135 (1:51 of Awn al-Mabud), through the route of Abu Awana from Musa bin Abu Ayesha. Bayhaqi likewise narrated it, 1:79, through the route of Abu Dawud, with his isnad, at length. The Hafiz mentioned it in Talkhis Habir (p. 30) and attributed it to Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Khuzayma, and Ibn Majah, through sahih routes. See also 5735, and see also Nasb Raya 1:29.
