Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Messenger of Allah, the funeral procession of an unbeliever passes by us. Should we stand for it?"He replied, "Yes, stand for it. You are not standing out of respect for it. You are only standing in reverence for the One who seizes souls."

أنه سأل رجل رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله تمر بنا جنازة الكافر أفنقوم لها فقال نعم قوموا لها فإنكم لستم تقومون لها إنما تقومون إعظاما للذي يقبض النفوس
