Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at a funeral when he said, "Which of you will go to Madinah and not leave a single idol without breaking it, nor a grave without leveling it, nor an image without smearing it over?"A man said, "I will, Messenger of Allah."So he set out, but he became fearful of the people of Madinah and returned.Then Ali said, "I will go, Messenger of Allah."The Prophet said, "Go then."So he set out, then returned and said, "Messenger of Allah, I did not leave a single idol without breaking it, nor a grave without leveling it, nor an image without smearing it over."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever returns to making any of these things has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad ﷺ."Then he said, "Do not be one who causes discord, nor one who is arrogant, nor a merchant except a merchant of good, for those are the ones who are foremost in deeds."

حدثنا معاوية حدثنا أبو إسحاق عن شعبة عن الحكم عن أبي محمد الهذلي

عن علي رضي الله عنه قال

كان رسول الله ﷺ في جنازة فقال أيكم ينطلق إلى المدينة فلا يدع بها وثنا إلا كسره ولا قبرا إلا سواه ولا صورة إلا لطخها فقال رجل أنا يا رسول الله فانطلق فهاب أهل المدينة فرجع فقال علي رضي الله عنه أنا أنطلق يا رسول الله قال فانطلق فانطلق ثم رجع فقال يا رسول الله لم أدع بها وثنا إلا كسرته ولا قبرا إلا سويته ولا صورة إلا لطختها ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ من عاد لصنعة شيء من هذا فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد ﷺ ثم قال لا تكونن فتانا ولا مختالا ولا تاجرا إلا تاجر الخير فإن أولئك هم المسبوقون بالعمل
