Its isnad is sahih. Muhammad bin Ubayd is Abu Qudama Hanafi. Husayni did not give him an entry in Ikmal, nor did Hafiz [Ibn Hajar] in Tajil, under the section of names, they only gave him an entry under the kunyas. It seems to me that they did not have this hadith of the Musnad in mind, or they forgot it when they were writing. Husayni was very brief, while Ibn Hajar added a little to it.In Tajil 514-515, Abu Qudama Hanafi, from Anas, and from him Yunus bin Ubayd, and this is a reference to hadith 12475 in the Musnad of Anas.I say [the speaker is Ibn Hajar], his name is Muhammad bin Ubayd. Abu Ahmad Hakim mentioned him, and among those who narrated from him he also mentioned Qatada, Humayd Tawil, and Ikrima bin Ammar. Bukhari mentioned him in Tarikh, saying, "Muhammad bin Ubayd Abu Qudama Hanafi, Qatada narrated from him, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As." Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat.Bukhari gave him a good entry in Kabir 1/1/172, saying, "Muhammad bin Ubayd Abu Qudama Hanafi. Muhammad bin Sinan told us, he said, Hammam told us, Qatada told us, from Muhammad bin Sirin and Muhammad bin Ubayd Hanafi, from Abdullah bin Amr, who said, 'I was with the Prophet in one of the walled gardens of Madinah, when a man sought permission to enter. He said, "Let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise, along with a trial that will befall him." It turned out to be Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him. He kept saying, "O Allah, grant patience," until he sat down. I said, "Where do I stand?" He said, "You are with your father."'"Nadr said, from Ikrima, from Muhammad bin Ubayd Abu Qudama, who heard Abdul-Aziz Abu Huzaifa say, "Whenever a matter weighed on the Prophet , he would pray." Ibn Abu Zaida said, from Ikrima, from Muhammad bin Abdullah Duwali.So Bukhari narrated, as you see, this hadith briefly, with additions beyond what is here in the Musnad.As for the hadith of Huzaifa, which he referred to at the end of the entry, it will come later in the Musnad. Abu Dawud narrated it, 1319 (11:517 Awn al-Mabud), both of them through Yahya bin Zakariya bin Abu Zaida, from Ikrima bin Ammar.What I consider more likely is that the correct form of his name is Muhammad bin Ubayd, and that Ibn Abu Zaida erred in naming him Muhammad bin Abdullah, because he was alone in that, while two trustworthy, precise narrators contradicted him, namely Qatada in this hadith, and Nadr bin Shumayl in his narration from Ikrima bin Ammar which Bukhari referred to. They were followed in this by Ubada bin Umar, in a third hadith narrated by Dulabi in Kuna 2:88, from Nasai, from Muhammad bin Miskin, from Ubada bin Umar, "Ikrima told us, from Abu Qudama Muhammad bin Ubayd." Dulabi mentioned that he was Abu Qudama Muhammad bin Abd Duwali. As for his being attributed once to Hanafi and once to Duwali, these are one and the same, for Duwal is Ibn Hanifa bin Lujaym, and within Duwal there are branches belonging to Banu Hanifa, and the number [of narrators from that lineage confirms it], as Ibn Hazm said in Jamharat Ansab (p. 291), and see also Ishtiqaq by Ibn Duraid (p. 209).Haythami mentioned this hadith in Majma al-Zawaid 9:56 at length. He said, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who said, "I was with the Prophet in one of the walled gardens of Madinah, when a man came and sought permission to enter. He said, 'Get up and let him in, and give him glad tidings of Paradise.' So I got up and let him in, and it was Abu Bakr, so I gave him glad tidings of Paradise, and he began praising Allah until he sat down. Then another man came and sought permission. He said, 'Get up and let him in, and give him glad tidings of Paradise.' So I got up and let him in, and it was Umar, so I let him in and gave him glad tidings of Paradise, and he began praising Allah until he sat down. Then someone came speaking in a low voice. He said, 'Get up and let him in, and give him glad tidings of Paradise, along with a trial that will befall him.' So I got up and let him in, and it was Uthman, so I gave him glad tidings of Paradise, along with a trial that would befall him. He said, 'O Allah, grant patience,' until he sat down. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, where do I stand?' He said, 'You are with your father.'"Tabarani narrated it, and this is his wording, and Ahmad narrated it in brief, with chains of transmission, and some of the narrators of Tabarani and Ahmad are narrators of sahih.
