The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us while we were repairing a hut of ours.He asked, "What is this?"We replied, "It is a hut of ours that has fallen into disrepair, so we are fixing it."He said, "Indeed, the matter is swifter than that."
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا الأعمش عن أبي السفر
مر بنا رسول الله ﷺ ونحن نصلح خصا لنا فقال ما هذا قلنا خصا لنا وهى فنحن نصلحه قال فقال أما إن الأمر أعجل من ذلك
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Sifr, with a fatha on the plain sin and a fatha on the fa, is Saeed bin Muhammad Hamdani Thawri. His reliability was established earlier at 2159, and we add here that Bukhari included his biography in al-Kabir 2/1/76.The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud (5236) through Abu Muawiya, from Amash, with this same isnad, in similar wording. He had also narrated it earlier (5235) (4:529–530 of Awn al-Mabud) through Hafs, from Amash, with this same isnad, conveying the same meaning. Munziri said at 5075, "Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah also narrated it," and Tirmidhi said, "hasan sahih." It also appears in Ibn Majah (2:280) through Abu Muawiya, from Amash.With a fatha on the dotted kha and a doubled plain sad, Ibn Athir said, "Al-Khiss is a house made of wood and reeds." Its plurals are khisas and akhsas, so named because of the khisas in it, meaning the gaps and holes.As for "wahiya," with a fatha on the waw and the ha, it comes from al-wahy, meaning decay and tearing, indicating that the khiss was dilapidated or on the verge of becoming so.
