Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stood for prayer and we stood with him. He prolonged the standing so long that we thought he was not going to bow. Then he bowed and barely raised his head, then he raised it but barely went into prostration, then he prostrated and barely raised his head, then he sat and barely went into prostration, then he prostrated and barely raised his head. Then he did the same in the second cycle as he had done in the first.During the second prostration of the second cycle, he began to blow at the ground and weep while prostrating, saying, "Lord, did You not promise that You would not punish them while I am among them? Lord, did You not promise that You would not punish us while we seek Your forgiveness?"He raised his head, and by then the sun had become clear. He completed his prayer, praised Allah and glorified Him, then said, "People, the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah عز وجل. When either of them is eclipsed, hasten to the mosques. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, Paradise was shown to me, so close that had I wished, I could have plucked some of its branches. And the Fire was shown to me, so close that I tried to put it out for fear it might engulf you.I saw in it a tall black woman from Himyar being punished on account of a cat she had tied up, neither feeding it nor giving it drink, nor letting it eat from the creatures of the earth. Every time the woman approached, the cat clawed at her, and every time she turned away, it clawed at her.I also saw in it the brother of Banu Dadaa. And I saw the owner of the hooked staff leaning on his staff in the Fire. He used to steal from the pilgrims with his hooked staff, and when they noticed, he would say, 'I am not stealing from you. It just got caught on my staff.'"
