A man from the Muslims asked permission from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding a woman called Umm Mahzul, who used to commit fornication and had stipulated that she would support him financially. He sought the permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or mentioned her situation to him. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ then recited to him, "The fornicator does not marry except a fornicatress or a polytheist" [Nur 24:3].

أن رجلا من المسلمين استأذن رسول الله ﷺ في امرأة يقال لها أم مهزول وكانت تسافح وتشترط له أن تنفق عليه قال فاستأذن رسول الله ﷺ أو ذكر له أمرها قال فقرأ عليه نبي الله ﷺ {الزانية لا ينكحها إلا زان أو مشرك}
