I went out on a campaign with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ toward Najd. We faced the enemy and drew up in ranks against them. He used to relate that he prayed this prayer with the Prophet ﷺ. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began the prayer with the call of Allah's greatness, and one group of us formed ranks behind him while the other group faced the enemy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in one rakat with two prostrations, which amounted to half of the dawn prayer. Then they withdrew and went forward to face the enemy, and the other group came and formed ranks with the Prophet ﷺ, and he did the same with them. Then the Prophet ﷺ concluded with the salam, and every man of the two groups stood and prayed one rakat with two prostrations on his own."
