I went in to see Salim bin Abdullah while he was reclining on a cushion that had images of birds and wild animals on it. I asked, "Is this not disliked?"He replied, "No. What is disliked is only what is set up as a standing figure. My father Abdullah bin Umar narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said, 'Whoever makes an image will be punished.'"Hafs once said, "He will be required to breathe a soul into it, and he will not be able to breathe into it."
حدثنا حفص بن غياث
دخلت على سالم بن عبد الله وهو متكئ على وسادة فيها تماثيل طير ووحش فقلت أليس يكره هذا قال لا إنما يكره ما نصب نصبا حدثني أبي عبد الله بن عمر عن رسول الله ﷺ قال من صور صورة عذب وقال حفص مرة كلف أن ينفخ فيها وليس بنافخ
Its isnad is sahih. Layth is Ibn Abu Salim. The marfu portion of the hadith has already appeared with the same meaning, at length and in summary, several times, the last of them being 6262. As for the story at its beginning, about Layth bin Abu Salim visiting Abdullah and asking him about what he saw of his pillow, I have not found it anywhere else.
