Whenever the Prophet ﷺ mounted his riding animal for a journey, he would say "Allah is the greatest" three times, then recite, "Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us, for we could never have done it ourselves, and indeed to our Lord we shall return" [Zukhruf 43:13–14].Then he would say, "Allah, I ask You on this journey of mine for righteousness, mindfulness of You, and deeds that please You. Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over the family. Allah, accompany us on our journey and watch over our family in our absence."When he returned to his family, he would say, "We return, repentant, Allah willing, worshipping our Lord and praising Him."

أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا ركب راحلته كبر ثلاثا ثم قال سبحان الذي سخر لنا هذا وما كنا له مقرنين وإنا إلى ربنا لمنقلبون ثم يقول اللهم إني أسألك في سفري هذا البر والتقوى ومن العمل ما ترضى اللهم هون علينا السفر واطو لنا البعيد اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل اللهم اصحبنا في سفرنا واخلفنا في أهلنا وكان إذا رجع إلى أهله قال آيبون تائبون إن شاء الله عابدون لربنا حامدون
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Kamil is Muzaffar bin Midrak Khurasani, whose reliability was established earlier at 1830. We add here Ahmad's statement, "Abu Kamil was knowledgeable about hadith, precise, resembled the people [of knowledge], had sound judgment, was among the most knowledgeable of people about the battle days of the people, and was thorough in it." It will come later in the Musnad at 7555, from Abdullah bin Ahmad, "I heard Yahya bin Main mention Abu Kamil, and he said, 'I used to take this subject from him.'" Abu Kamil was a Baghdadi known for trustworthiness. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 4/2/74.Abu Zubayr is the Makkan, Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus. Ali bin Abdullah Azdi Bariqi, whose reliability was established earlier at 4791, we add here that Ibn Abu Hatim gave his biography in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 3/1/193.This hadith was narrated by Muslim 1:381 through Hajjaj bin Muhammad, from Ibn Jurayj, from Abu Zubayr. It was narrated by Tirmidhi 4:244-245 through Abdullah bin Mubarak, from Hammad bin Salama, from Abu Zubayr, and he said, "This is a hasan hadith." It was narrated by Abu Dawud 2:338 through Abdul-Razzaq, from Ibn Jurayj, from Abu Zubayr, with this addition at the end, "The Prophet and his armies, when they climbed the mountain passes, would say Allahu Akbar, and when they descended, they would say Subhanallah. The prayer was established on that basis."Munziri said at 2487, "Muslim, Tirmidhi, and Nasai also transmitted it, and the last part of their version reads, 'praising [Allah].'" Ibn Kathir cited it in the tafsir 1:389 from the Musnad at this very place, and said, "This is how Muslim, Abu Dawud, and Nasai narrated it from the hadith of Ibn Jurayj, and Tirmidhi from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, both of them from Abu Zubayr, with this wording."It will come later from Abdul-Razzaq, from Ibn Jurayj, at 6374, without the addition found in Abu Dawud's version.
