I was with Abdullah bin Umar in the gathering of Banu Abdullah in Mecca when a young man passed by us with his lower garment hanging down below his ankles. Abdullah called out, "Come here, young man."The young man approached him, and Abdullah asked, "Who are you?"He replied, "I am one of the sons of Bakr bin Saad."Abdullah asked, "Would you like Allah to look upon you on the Day of Resurrection?"He answered, "Yes."Abdullah said, "Then raise your garment, for I heard Abu al-Qasim ﷺ with these two ears of mine," and he gestured with his two fingers toward his ears, "say, 'Whoever drags his garment out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection.'"
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا عبد الملك
كنت مع عبد الله بن عمر في مجلس بني عبد الله بمكة فمر علينا فتى مسبل إزاره فقال هلم يا فتى فأتاه فقال من أنت قال أنا أحد بني بكر بن سعد قال أتحب أن ينظر الله إليك يوم القيامة قال نعم قال فارفع إزارك إذا فإني سمعت أبا القاسم ﷺ يقول بأذني هاتين وأهوى بإصبعيه إلى أذنيه يقول من جر إزاره لا يريد به إلا الخيلاء لم ينظر الله إليه يوم القيامة
Its isnad is sahih. Abdul-Malik is Ibn Abu Sulayman, and the hadith appears in longer form at 5327, 5050, and see also 6150. We noted in the commentary on 5050 that Muslim narrated it through Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman. His words "on the Day of Resurrection" in the first instance were not mentioned in M, but they are recorded in its margin as a variant reading.
