The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The span of your lives compared to the lifespans of the nations before you is like the time between the afternoon prayer and the setting of the sun."
حدثنا يونس حدثنا حماد يعني ابن زيد عن أيوب عن نافع
قال رسول الله ﷺ ألا إن مثل آجالكم في آجال الأمم قبلكم كما بين صلاة العصر إلى مغيربان الشمس
Its isnad is sahih, and it is an abridgment of 6029. "Mugharibban al-shams" (the setting-place of the sun) means, as Ibn Athir said, until the time of its disappearance. It is said, "gharabat al-shams ghuruban wa mughariban," and it is a diminutive form without a corresponding non-diminutive form, as though they had made a diminutive of "mughrib."
