The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman used to walk in front of the funeral procession.
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Sulayman bin Dawud Hashimi, his reliability was already established at 2184, and we add here that Bukhari mentioned him in Tarikh al-Kabir 11/2/2.Ibrahim bin Saad bin Ibrahim bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, his reliability was already established at 2404 and 1656, and we add here the statement of Ibn Main, "Trustworthy, a proof," and the statement of Ibn Uyayna, "I was with Ibn Shihab when Ibrahim bin Saad came, and he raised him up and honored him, saying, 'Saad entrusted his son to me, and Saad is Saad.'" Ibn Adi said, "He is among the trustworthy of the Muslims. A group of the imams narrated from him, and no one disputed writing from him. What has been said against him is unfair criticism. He has sound, straightforward hadiths from Zuhri and others," meaning that some had criticized his narration from Zuhri because he narrates directly from him frequently, but in this chain he narrated from him through his nephew. Bukhari mentioned him in Tarikh al-Kabir 228/1/1, saying, "He heard from his father and from Zuhri."The nephew of Ibn Shihab is Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Muslim bin Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Shihab, the nephew of Zuhri, and he is trustworthy. Some criticized him without justification. Abu Dawud was asked about him and said, "Trustworthy," and I heard Ahmad, meaning Ibn Hanbal, praising him. Bukhari mentioned him in Tarikh al-Kabir 131/1/1.His uncle is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Ubaydullah, who is Ibn Shihab Zuhri, the eminent imam among the followers. His reliability was already established at 1513, and we add here that he narrates from Ibn Umar directly, and is also narrated from through an intermediary as in this case. Bukhari mentioned him in Tarikh al-Kabir 220–221/1/1. It is reported from Ayub that he said, "I have not seen anyone more knowledgeable than Zuhri," and Sakhr bin Juwayria said to him, "Not even Hasan?" He replied, "I have not seen anyone more knowledgeable than Zuhri." It is also reported from Ibrahim bin Saad, from his father, who said, "I do not think anyone after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has gathered what Ibn Shihab gathered."The hadith appears in full at 4539, and in abbreviated form at 4939 and 4940. We have already discussed in detail at its beginning the disagreement over whether it is connected or disconnected in transmission, and we favored the connected version. This chain further supports and reinforces that conclusion, since its narrators corroborate those who connected it, and this amounts to an additional trustworthy narrator added to already trustworthy ones.
