I came upon Ibn Umar after he had reported a hadith. I asked, "What did he report?"They said, "He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Ghifar, may Allah forgive them, and Aslam, may Allah keep them safe.'"
Its isnad is sahih, despite the apparent break it contains. Saeed bin Amr bin Saeed bin As, his reliability was established earlier at 5017, and he was a follower who heard from Ibn Umar and others. Although this hadith has a broken isnad, it is in effect connected, because Saeed asked the companions of Ibn Umar who were present in the gathering, at that very gathering, and it is highly unlikely that they would have told him anything other than what Ibn Umar had said, for otherwise Ibn Umar would have corrected them and exposed their error in front of them. Moreover, the hadith itself is sahih, having appeared many times before, in both lengthy and abridged forms, with connected chains of transmission, the most recent being 5969.
