The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a ring of gold made for himself, so the people had rings of gold made for themselves as well. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I had a ring of gold made for myself, but I have cast it aside, and I will never wear it again." So the people cast aside their rings.

اتخذ رسول الله ﷺ خاتما من ذهب فاتخذ الناس خواتيم من ذهب فقال رسول الله ﷺ إني اتخذت خاتما من ذهب فنبذته وقال إني لست ألبسه أبدا فنبذ الناس خواتيمهم
