I have never fasted on the day of Arafah, nor did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fast it, nor Abu Bakr, nor Umar.

ما صمت عرفة قط ولا صامه رسول الله ﷺ ولا أبو بكر ولا عمر
Its isnad is sahih, and it is an abridgment of 5420. What is meant is fasting on the day of Arafah while at Arafah.
