The Prophet ﷺ said on the Day of the Confederates, "May Allah fill their houses and their graves with fire, just as they kept us from the prayer until the sun set."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Muhammad bin Abu Adi is Muhammad bin Ibrahim Qasmali Basri, and he is trustworthy. Saeed is Ibn Abu Aruba. Abu Hassan is al-Ajrad, also called al-Ajrad, whose name was Muslim bin Abdullah, a Basri Follower who is trustworthy. Ubayda, with a fatha on the ain, is al-Salmani al-Muradi, a Kufan Follower who is trustworthy and mukhadram, having embraced Islam two years before the death of the Messenger of Allah without ever meeting him.The phrase "the sun set" (aabat al-shams) at the end means it went down, from the root awb, meaning "to return", because it returns by setting to the place from which it rose. It could also have been used for its rising in this sense, which would make sense, but it was not used that way.Ibn Kathir attributed this hadith in his tafsir (1:578) to the two Shaykhs, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasai, and more than one of the compilers of musnads, sunans, and sahihs, all narrating from Ubayda, from Ali.
