The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of gold, so the people had rings made of gold for themselves. One day he stood up and said, "I used to wear this ring." Then he threw it away, and the people threw away their rings as well.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا عبد العزيز بن مسلم حدثنا عبد الله بن دينار
اتخذ رسول الله ﷺ خاتما من ذهب فاتخذ الناس خواتمهم من ذهب فقام يوما فقال إني كنت ألبس هذا الخاتم ثم نبذه فنبذ الناس خواتيمهم
Its isnad is sahih. It is a repetition of 5249, and an abridgment of 5706. His saying, "So the people took up rings," in H it reads "their rings," and we have kept what is in K and M, which is better and more correct.
