The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not return to disbelief after me, striking the necks of one another."
Its chain of transmission is sahih, and it is a repetition of 5604. As for his statement, "This is what Affan said," and so on, this is from the words of Imam Ahmad, meaning that Affan abbreviated Waqid's lineage, tracing him back to his father's grandfather. The same occurs in the narration of Abu Dawud, 4:355, from Abu Walid Tayalisi, from Shubah, "He said, Waqid bin Abdullah said, my father informed me."Ibn Hajar said in Tahdheeb, 11:106, in the biography of Waqid bin Abdullah, "Shubah narrated from him, as Abu Dawud said, from Abu Walid, from him. And Ghundar [that is, Muhammad bin Jafar] said, from Shubah, from Waqid bin Muhammad, and this will come later." I say [the speaker being Ibn Hajar], "We have narrated it in the first part of Kabir through the hadith of Ibn Simak, by way of Affan, from Shubah, just as Abu Dawud said." So he pointed to the narration of Affan by way of Ibn Simak, but he failed to mention this narration of Ahmad from Affan, which more deserves to be mentioned. See the narration of Ghundar following this one.
