Umar saw a silk garment being sold at the door of the mosque, so he said, "Messenger of Allah, why don't you buy it and wear it on Fridays and when delegations come to visit you?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "This is worn only by one who has no share in the Hereafter."Later, some similar garments were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave one of them to Umar.Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, you have given me this to wear, yet you said about it what you said?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I did not give it to you to wear. I gave it to you so you could sell it or pass it on to someone else."So Umar gave it to a brother of his from his mother's side, who was a polytheist in Mecca.
