The Messenger of Allah used to have the Anazah carried with him on the two Eids and on his journeys. It would be planted in front of him, and he would pray facing it.
حدثنا أسود بن عامر أخبرنا هريم عن عبيد الله عن نافع
كان رسول الله تحمل معه العنزة في العيدين في أسفاره فتركز بين يديه فيصلي إليها

Its isnad is sahih. Hurayim is Ibn Sufyan Bajali, whose reliability was established earlier at 2767. The hadith appeared before in abbreviated form at 4614 and 4681, and we noted at the first occurrence that it appears in full length in Muntaqa 1131.The anazah, with fatha on the nun and the zay, Ibn Athir said it is like half a spear or a bit larger, having a blade like the blade of a spear, and the akkazah (staff) is close to it.
