He said to Abdullah bin Umar, "We find the prayer of residence and the prayer of fear in the Quran, but we do not find the prayer of travel in the Quran."Ibn Umar replied, "Nephew, Allah sent Muhammad ﷺ to us when we knew nothing, so we simply do as we saw Muhammad ﷺ do."
Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Hisham Makhzumi is trustworthy. Umaya bin Abdullah bin Khalid bin Usayd, with the hamza in fatha and the sin in kasra, bin Abu Ays, with the plain ayn in kasra, bin Umaya Umawi, is trustworthy, Ajli and others deemed him trustworthy, and Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 1/2/8.The hadith was narrated by Nasai 1:211 from Qutayba bin Saeed, and by Ibn Majah 171 from Muhammad bin Rumh, both of them from Layth bin Saad from Zuhri, with this same isnad. Nasai also narrated it at 1:79 through the route of Muhammad bin Abdullah Shajai from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Harith from Umaya bin Abdullah bin Khalid.Something similar to this, in abbreviated form, has already passed through the route of Malik from Zuhri from a man of the family of Khalid bin Usayd at 5333, and we mentioned there the flaw in Malik's narration, and that it is established as connected through a route other than his, and we pointed to this isnad. In version Ayn, it reads "from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr from Abdul-Rahman" instead of "Ibn Abdul-Rahman," which is an error we have corrected from versions Kaf and Mim. And in al-Tahdhib 5:163, in the biography of Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman, it states, "he narrated from his father from Abdullah bin Khalid," which is a clear error, the correct reading being "he narrated from Umaya bin Abdullah bin Khalid," as becomes evident from the isnad of this hadith and its sourcing, and as is confirmed correctly in al-Tahdhib itself in the biography of Umaya bin Abdullah at 1:371-372.
