The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Had I been to appoint anyone without consulting the believers, I would have appointed Ibn Umm Abd."
حدثنا أبو سعيد حدثنا إسرائيل حدثنا أبو إسحاق عن الحارث
قال رسول الله ﷺ لو كنت مؤمرا أحدا دون مشورة المؤمنين لأمرت ابن أم عبد
Its chain is very daif, like the one before it. The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi 4/348, who said, "We only know this hadith through Harith, from Ali." It was likewise narrated by Ibn Majah 1/22, and by Ibn Saad in Tabaqat 3/109/1, through Harith. It was also narrated by Hakim in Mustadrak 3/18, through Asim bin Damra from Ali, and he graded it sahih, but Dhahabi challenged this, saying that Asim is daif. In fact, Asim bin Damra is trustworthy, and whoever criticized him went too far and erred. The hadith is sahih through the route of Asim, not Harith. It will come again several times through the hadith of Harith, at 739, 846, and 852.
