During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the call to prayer was given with each phrase repeated twice, while the iqamah was given once, except that when the muezzin reached "the prayer is about to begin," he would say it twice.
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا شعبة عن أبي جعفر سمعت أبا المثنى يحدث
كان الأذان على عهد رسول الله ﷺ مثنى مثنى والإقامة واحدة غير أن المؤذن كان إذا قال قد قامت الصلاة قال قد قامت الصلاة مرتين
