One day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse from the pulpit, "They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal, while the earth entirely will be in His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him" [Zumar 39:67].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was gesturing with his hand as he recited, moving it back and forth, demonstrating how the Lord glorifies Himself, "I am the Compeller, I am the Supreme, I am the Sovereign, I am the Mighty, I am the Generous."The pulpit shook so violently beneath the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that we thought it would topple with him.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد بن سلمة أخبرنا إسحاق بن عبد الله يعني ابن أبي طلحة عن عبيد الله بن مقسم
أن رسول الله ﷺ قرأ هذه الآية ذات يوم على المنبر {وما قدروا الله حق قدره والأرض جميعا قبضته يوم القيامة والسموات مطويات بيمينه سبحانه وتعالى عما يشركون} ورسول الله ﷺ يقول هكذا بيده ويحركها يقبل بها ويدبر يمجد الرب نفسه أنا الجبار أنا المتكبر أنا الملك أنا العزيز أنا الكريم فرجف برسول الله ﷺ المنبر حتى قلنا ليخرن به
Its isnad is sahih. Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha Zayd bin Sahl Ansari is trustworthy and authoritative, as Ibn Main said, and Abu Zura, Abu Hatim, and Nasai confirmed his trustworthiness. Waqidi said that Malik would not give precedence to anyone over him in hadith. Ibn Hibban said he was foremost in the transmission of hadith and in mastery of it. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 1/1/393-394.Ubaydullah bin Miqsam Madani was a trustworthy successor, confirmed as trustworthy by Abu Dawud, Nasai, and others. Ibn Kathir cited this hadith in his tafsir, 7:263-264, from this very place, and mentioned that Bukhari narrated it in abridged form through Nafi from Ibn Umar, and that he transmitted it alone by this route, while Muslim narrated it through another route.
