He was sitting one day in Makkah, with Abdullah bin Umar beside him, when Ubayy said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The likeness of the hypocrite on the Day of Resurrection is like a sheep between two flocks. If she goes to one, they butt her, and if she goes to the other, they butt her too.'"Ibn Umar said to him, "You have lied."The people then spoke well of Ubayy and praised him.Ibn Umar said, "I do not think your companion is anything but as you describe. However, I myself was present and heard the Prophet of Allah ﷺ say, 'Like a sheep between two flocks of sheep.'"Ubayy replied, "It is the same thing."Ibn Umar said, "This is how I heard it."
حدثنا خلف بن الوليد حدثنا الهذيل بن بلال
أنه جلس ذات يوم بمكة وعبد الله بن عمر معه فقال أبي قال رسول الله ﷺ إن مثل المنافق يوم القيامة كالشاة بين الربيضين من الغنم إن أتت هؤلاء نطحنها وإن أتت هؤلاء نطحنها فقال له ابن عمر كذبت فأثنى القوم على أبي خيرا أو معروفا فقال ابن عمر لا أظن صاحبكم إلا كما تقولون ولكني شاهد نبي الله ﷺ إذ قال كالشاة بين الغنمين فقال هو سواء فقال هكذا سمعته
