The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "While a man was dragging his lower garment out of arrogance, the earth swallowed him up, and he will keep sinking into it until the Day of Resurrection."
حدثنا علي بن إسحاق أخبرنا عبد الله أخبرنا يونس عن الزهري أخبرني سالم أن
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال بينما رجل يجر إزاره من الخيلاء خسف به فهو يتجلجل في الأرض إلى يوم القيامة
Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah is Ibn Mubarak. Bukhari related this hadith in 6:381 through Ubaydullah from Yunus from Zuhri, then said, "Abdul-Rahman bin Khalid followed him in narrating it from Zuhri." He also related it in 10:222 through Abdul-Rahman bin Khalid from Zuhri, then said, "Yunus followed him in narrating it from Zuhri, but Shuayb did not narrate it from Zuhri as a raised hadith."Nasai related it in 2:298-299 through Ibn Wahb from Yunus from Zuhri. From what the Hafiz does at the ends of the chapters in Fath al-Bari 6:381 and 10:335, it can be gathered that this hadith is one of those where Muslim agreed with Bukhari in recording it, since he did not mention it among the hadiths he excluded as being unique to Bukhari apart from Muslim. However, I did not find it in Sahih Muslim. Rather, what is found there is only its meaning, from the hadith of Abu Hurairah, using the word "yatajaljal."Ibn Athir said, this means he sinks into the earth when it swallows him up. Al-jaljalah is a movement accompanied by a sound.
