A man came to Ibn Umar and asked, "Is it permissible for me to perform tawaf around the House while I am in the state of ihram?"Ibn Umar replied, "What prevents you from doing so?"The man said, "So-and-so forbids us from doing this until the people return from the standing place. We see him as someone who has been swayed by worldly status, while you are dearer to us than he is."Ibn Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Hajj. He made tawaf around the House and performed saee between Safa and Marwa. The sunnah of Allah the Exalted and His Messenger is more deserving to be followed than the sunnah of so-and-so's son, if you are truthful."

أتى رجل ابن عمر فقال أيصلح أن أطوف بالبيت وأنا محرم قال ما يمنعك من ذلك قال إن فلانا ينهانا عن ذلك حتى يرجع الناس من الموقف ورأيته كأنه مالت به الدنيا وأنت أعجب إلينا منه قال ابن عمر حج رسول الله ﷺ فطاف بالبيت وسعى بين الصفا والمروة وسنة الله تعالى ورسوله أحق أن تتبع من سنة ابن فلان إن كنت صادقا

Its isnad is sahih. Ismail is Ibn Abu Khalid. Wabarah is Ibn Abdul-Rahman Al-Musli. In Tahdhib 11:111, among those who narrated from Wabarah, it lists Ishaq bin Abu Khalid, but this is a printing error, which is corrected from this location, from Khulasah, and from the book Jam Bayna Rijal Al-Sahihayn 545, which mentions that Ismail's narration from him is in Sahih Muslim. Muslim narrated the hadith at 1:353 through the route of Abthar from Ismail bin Abu Khalid from Wabarah, and he also narrated it through the route of Jareer from Wabarah, similarly. In the first narration, it is made explicit that the one referred to as "so-and-so" is Ibn Abbas. See also 4641.
