Abu Hurairah reported,

Uthman set out for Mecca to perform the pilgrimage. Muhammad bin Jafar bin Abu Talib went in to his wife and spent the night with her until morning, then he came out the next day with traces of perfume on him, wearing a heavily dyed safflower-yellow cloak. He caught up with the people at Malal before they set off again.When Uthman saw him, he rebuked him and exclaimed in disgust, saying, "Do you wear safflower-dyed clothing when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it?"Ali bin Abu Talib said to him, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not forbid it to him, nor to you. He only forbade it to me."

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال

راح عثمان رضي الله عنه إلى مكة حاجا ودخلت على محمد بن جعفر بن أبي طالب امرأته فبات معها حتى أصبح ثم غدا عليه ردع الطيب وملحفة معصفرة مفدمة فأدرك الناس بملل قبل أن يروحوا فلما رآه عثمان انتهر وأفف وقال أتلبس المعصفر وقد نهى عنه رسول الله ﷺ فقال له علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه إن رسول الله ﷺ لم ينهه ولا إياك إنما نهاني
