The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the beards grow and trim the moustaches."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن حدثنا سفيان سمعت عبد الرحمن قال ابن مهدي هو ابن علقمة يقول سمعت
قال رسول الله ﷺ أعفوا اللحى وحفوا الشوارب
Its isnad is sahih. Abdul-Rahman bin Alqama, also called Ibn Abu Alqama and also called Ibn Alqam, is a trustworthy successor who narrates from Ibn Abbas and Ibn Umar, and Sufyan Thawri narrates from him. Nasai, Ajli, and Ibn Shahin all confirmed his reliability, and Ibn Mahdi said, "He was among the firmly reliable and trustworthy."He is not the same as Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Alqama who narrates from Ibn Masud. As was noted earlier at 3657, some narrators confused him with a companion named Abdul-Rahman bin Alqama, so this person here is a third individual, distinct from both of them.This hadith is a repetition of 4654.
