The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by some food that its seller had displayed attractively. He put his hand into it and discovered that the food underneath was of poor quality. He said, "Sell this separately and that separately. Whoever deceives us is not one of us."

Its isnad is daif, due to the weakness of Abu Mashar Najeeh bin Abdul-Rahman Sindi, as we said at 545. The hadith is in Majma al-Zawaid 4:78, where it says, Ahmad, Bazzar, and Tabarani in Awsat narrated it, and it contains Abu Mashar, who is truthful, though a group of scholars have deemed him daif. Its meaning, in itself, is established from the hadith of Abu Hurairah, narrated by the group except Bukhari and Nasai, as in Muntaqa 2937.
