He asked Ibn Umar, saying, "I am only asking you about two matters, about raisins and dates, and about advance payment for the produce of palm trees."Ibn Umar said, "A drunken man was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'I only drank raisins and dates.' So he had him flogged with the prescribed punishment and forbade that the two be combined."He continued, "A man paid in advance for the produce of another man's palm trees. The owner said, 'His palm trees did not bear fruit this year,' and the buyer wanted to take back his money, but the owner refused to give it to him. So he was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who asked, 'Did his palm trees bear fruit?' He answered, 'No.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Then on what grounds are you withholding his money?'" He said, "So he handed it over to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade advance payment for the produce of palm trees until its ripeness becomes apparent."
