The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever drinks wine, his prayer will not be accepted for forty nights. If he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. But if he returns to it, it becomes incumbent upon Allah, the Exalted, to give him to drink from the river of Khabal."Someone asked, "What is the river of Khabal?"He replied, "The pus of the people of the Fire."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن عطاء بن السائب عن عبد الله بن عبيد بن عمير
أن النبي ﷺ قال من شرب الخمر لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين ليلة فإن تاب تاب الله عليه فإن عاد كان حقا على الله تعالى أن يسقيه من نهر الخبال قيل وما نهر الخبال قال صديد أهل النار
Its isnad is hasan, because Muamar bin Rashid was from Basra, and Ata bin Saaib came to them in Basra late in his life, after his memory had deteriorated.This hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi 3:103 at greater length from Qutayba, from Jareer, from Ata bin Saaib, from Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umayr, from his father, from Ibn Umar. He added to the isnad "from his father," making it a narration of Ubayd bin Umayr from Ibn Umar, while Abdullah bin Ubayd also narrates from Ibn Umar directly. Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan hadith.Likewise, Tayalisi narrated it in his Musnad at greater length, 1901, from Hammam, from Ata, with the addition of "from his father" in the isnad. Jareer and Hammam were both from Basra, like Muamar bin Rashid.The commentator on Tirmidhi attributed it to Hakim and said that he graded it sahih, but I did not find it in the Mustadrak. Rather, what is found there is a hadith with a similar meaning attributed to Abdullah bin Amr bin As, 4:145-146. It will also come up in the Musnad at 6773, and see also 14937 in the Musnad of Jabir.
