I saw Uthman bin Affan call for water for ablution while he was at the door of the mosque. He washed his hands, then rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose and blew it out, then washed his face three times, then washed his arms up to the elbows three times, then wiped his head and ran his hands over the outer surface of his ears, then passed them over his beard, then washed his feet up to the ankles three times. Then he stood and prayed two units of prayer. He said, "I have performed ablution for you as I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform it, and I prayed two units as I saw him pray."Then he said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his two units, he said, 'Whoever performs ablution as I have performed it, then prays two units without letting his thoughts wander during them, will be forgiven for whatever occurred between this prayer and his prayer of yesterday.'"
