Its isnad is sahih. Ali Azdi is Ali bin Abdullah Bariqi, who is trustworthy. Ajli deemed him trustworthy, and Muslim included a hadith from him other than this one in his Sahih. Bariqi is a designation referring to Bariq, a clan of Azd. Some said it is a mountain in Yemen settled by a group of Azd, see al-Lubab fi al-Ansab 1:86.Tirmidhi related this hadith in 1:409 through Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi from Shubah, then said, the companions of Shubah differed regarding the hadith of Ibn Umar. Some of them related it as a raised report while others related it as a stopped report. It has also been related from Abdullah Umari, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet, something similar to this. The correct version is what has been related from Ibn Umar from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said, "The night prayer is performed two units at a time." The trustworthy narrators related it from Abdullah bin Umar from the Prophet, and did not mention daytime prayer in it. It has also been related from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, that he used to pray two units at a time at night and four units during the day.Bayhaqi related it in 2:487 through Amr bin Marzuq from Shubah, and through Yahya bin Main from Ghundar from Shubah, and he said, likewise Muaz bin Muaz related it from Shubah, and likewise Abdul-Malik bin Husayn related it from Yaala bin Ata. Then he related with his isnad that Bukhari was asked about the hadith of Yaala, "Is it sahih?" He said, "Yes." And that Bukhari said, Saeed bin Jubayr said, Ibn Umar would not pray four units without separating between them, except for the obligatory prayer.Then Bayhaqi also related with a sahih isnad from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Thawban, that he heard Abdullah bin Umar say, "The night prayer and the day prayer are two units at a time," meaning by that the voluntary prayer.All of this refutes the reasoning of Tirmidhi, and Bukhari's grading this hadith sahih is sufficient proof.
