Its chain is daif because of the obscurity of this Najrani man from whom Abu Ishaq Sabi narrated. Likewise in Tahdhib 12:334, he is given a biographical entry under the name Najrani, where it says, Uthman Darimi said, "unknown," and Ibn Adi said the same. In Tajil 551, under the entry for Abu Ishaq Sabi, it mentions "from a man from Najran," who is the Najrani who narrated from Ibn Umar.This hadith will come later at length, number 5067, narrated from Shubah, from Abu Ishaq, from a man from Najran, who asked Ibn Umar. It contains the prohibition against combining raisins and dates, the story of the punishment mentioned here, and the prohibition against advance sale (salam) on palm trees before their fruit shows signs of ripeness.The prohibition against salam on palm trees was narrated by Abu Dawud, 3:293, through the route of Thawri, from Abu Ishaq, from a Najrani man. It was also narrated by Ibn Majah, 2:22-23, through the route of Abu Ahwas, from Abu Ishaq, from the Najrani. Munziri said, "In its chain is an unknown man."As for the hadith given here, Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid, 6:278, limiting it only to the flogging, then he said, "Ahmad narrated it through the narration of the Najrani from Ibn Umar, and I do not know who he is, but the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the sahih." He said that Abu Yaala narrated it with an addition, "Then he said, 'What is your drink?' He said, 'Raisins and dates.'"This addition, which Haythami's wording gives the impression that Abu Yaala narrated alone, is in fact established here in Ahmad's version, as you can see, and it is also established in meaning in the coming narration to which we referred. So it was not an addition unique to Abu Yaala alone!
