The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Fatimah and found a curtain hanging at her door, so he did not enter upon her. He rarely came without beginning his visit with her. Then Ali arrived and saw her looking distressed.He asked, "What is the matter with you?"She replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me but did not enter."Ali went to him and said, "Messenger of Allah, it has weighed heavily on Fatimah that you came to her but did not enter."He said, "What have I to do with the world, and what have I to do with embroidered cloth?"Ali went back to Fatimah and informed her of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said.She said, "Then ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what he commands me to do with it."He said, "Tell her to send it to the family of so-and-so."
حدثنا ابن نمير حدثنا فضيل يعني ابن غزوان عن نافع
أن رسول الله ﷺ أتى فاطمة فوجد على بابها سترا فلم يدخل عليها وقلما كان يدخل إلا بدأ بها قال فجاء علي فرآها مهتمة فقال ما لك فقالت جاء إلي رسول الله ﷺ فلم يدخل علي فأتاه علي فقال يا رسول الله إن فاطمة اشتد عليها أنك جئتها فلم تدخل عليها فقال وما أنا والدنيا وما أنا والرقم قال فذهب إلى فاطمة فأخبرها بقول رسول الله ﷺ فقالت فقل لرسول الله ﷺ فما تأمرني به فقال قل لها ترسل به إلى بني فلان
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud related it, 4:120-121, through the route of Ibn Numayr from Fudayl, and through the route of Ibn Fudayl from his father. Its commentator said, Munziri passed over it in silence. This indicates that it is not found in any of the Six Books except Abu Dawud. Al-raqm, with fatha on the ra and sukun on the qaf, means engraving and ornamentation, and its original meaning is writing, as Ibn Athir stated.
