From the pulpit, he said, "People, I withheld from you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ because I disliked the thought of you departing from me. But it has now occurred to me that I should narrate it to you, so that each person may choose for himself what seems best to him. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Standing guard for one day in the cause of Allah Almighty is better than a thousand days spent in any other dwelling.'"
حدثنا هاشم حدثنا ليث حدثني زهرة بن معبد القرشي عن أبي صالح مولى عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه قال
على المنبر أيها الناس إني كتمتكم حديثا سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ كراهية تفرقكم عني ثم بدا لي أن أحدثكموه ليختار امرؤ لنفسه ما بدا له سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول رباط يوم في سبيل الله تعالى خير من ألف يوم فيما سواه من المنازل
