I do not know it except from Abdullah, that Abbas asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to spend the nights of Mina at Mecca on account of his duty of providing water to the pilgrims, and he granted him permission.
حدثنا يحيى عن عبيد الله
لا أعلمه إلا عن عبد الله أن العباس استأذن رسول الله ﷺ في أن يبيت بمكة أيام مني من أجل السقاية فرخص له
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it, 2:145, via Ibn Numayr and Abu Usama, from Ubaydullah, as a marfu narration, without mentioning Ubaydullah's doubt about its being marfu. It will come again at 4731 from Ibn Numayr, without this doubt. Munziri said, 1878, Bukhari, Muslim, Nasai, and Ibn Majah also reported it.
