Its isnad is sahih. Muslim narrated it in 1:169 from Ahmad bin Hanbal and others, from Yahya Qattan, with this isnad, then he narrated it via Hammad bin Salama, from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, that a daughter of Umar was called Asiyah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named her Jamila.Tirmidhi narrated it in 3:30 via Yahya Qattan, in the same manner as Ahmad's narration here, then he said, The hadith is hasan gharib, and Yahya Qattan only narrated it with a connected chain from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, while some narrated this from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Umar, as a mursal report.This criticism is not sound, since it becomes clear from Muslim's narration that Hammad bin Salama corroborated Yahya Qattan in connecting the isnad and attributing it directly to the Prophet.In the commentary on Tirmidhi it is mentioned that Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah also narrated it. Ibn Abdul-Barr stated firmly in al-Istiab, followed by Ibn Athir in Usd al-Ghaba, and followed by both of them by al-Hafiz in al-Isaba 8:40, that the one whose name the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed was Jamila bint Thabit bin Abu Aqlah, and that her name had been Asiyah, and she was the one Umar married in year 6, and she bore him Asim bin Umar.However, what is established in Sahih Muslim, that the one whose name the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed was Jamila bint Umar, is more likely to be correct, Allah willing.
